About Us

The Swan Inn freehouse is a traditional 17th century inn on the banks of the River Soar, in the village of Mountsorrel, Leicestershire. We have recently taken over from the past owners who were here for more than 20 years. We will continue to try and provide an old-fashioned pub where you can relax for a quiet pint in front of the fire, or enjoy proper food, well-cooked from fresh ingredients.

Our Opening Times are :

Monday to Friday    12am - 2:30pm, 5:30pm-11pm
Saturday            12:00am - 11pm
Sunday              12am - 10:30pm

History of the Swan Inn

The Swan Inn building has been dated back to 1688 and there is evidence of it being used as public house since the early 1800's.  Originally two terraced cottages, it has been transformed over the years.  It is a Grade II listed building built in brick and Mountsorrel granite, and the rear wing still shows the original timber frame.

A village legend claims that gold sovereigns are hidden in a granite wall by a former licensee, who wanted to keep his wealth secret from his wife.  Despite many attempts, the treasure has never been found.

In the late 1800's it was known as the Nags Head and the top picture shows everyone dressed for their annual holiday to Nottingham in 1899.
